Tips for Hardy Gardeners: What to do with a Wet Garden

With the wet summer the Northland has had, we are not the only ones swimming in water. The vegetables in our gardens are being affected by the more constant rainfall and are becoming limp and less nutritious.

One way to fix this problem is to educate yourself on different types of soil and their propensity to hold water. Some soils hold a lot of water which can negatively effect plants and veggies while some soils allow for better drainage. Another way to keep veggies from sitting in water is to have a raised garden or a garden on a hill where the water can run down.

Many people use their vegetable gardens to feed themselves, their families and their communities, these are just a few ways to keep eating healthy and loving the earth.

You can hear Tips for Hardy Gardeners every other Tuesday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
