Delegates from Minnesota-based non-profit Climate Generation will be making the trip to Dubai for the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) from November 30th-December 12th.

Nineteen-year-old nursing student Yvonne Mongare is attending the first week and is eager to visit Dubai and get work done. "This is such a unique opportunity," says Mongare who wants to create a blog and a video while attending the conference. "When you're advocating for something that's so much bigger that you, you can get lost in it all and almost feel helpless, so I feel like having a person, like myself, that can specifically tell my own story about what COP is, what it means to me, what to do after attending COP would be the overall goal."

Though there are different themes throughout the conference depending on the day, one of the main focuses is "keep one-point-five alive" (or the graver "one-point-five to stay alive".) The number refers to a limitation in rising global temperature stipulated by the Paris Agreement. "I've been trying to educate myself more on a lot of the climate issues that are being attacked right now," says Mongare. "I've been trying to read up on the Paris Agreement, so I have a better understanding of that."
