We're past the equinox, and nighttime will be the dominant part of our daily cycle for the next several months. For some, this may seem dreary, but for art it can mean an explosion of creativity.
"We can welcome it," says Annie Dugan of the nighttime. "We are used to it here in the Northland and we certainly have artists that celebrate it." To begin the celebration of the night, Lizzard's Gallery in downtown Duluth is presenting Nocturn, a group exhibit focused the importance of the nighttime.
Sara Seidelmann's new exhibit My Favorite Things Matter opens at Siiviis with a reception this Thursday, October 2nd from 5-7pm. "There's just such exuberance in her work," says Dugan. "She talks about wanting to make love visible in the world." Guests at the opening will receive a unique mono-print to take home.
And as night falls earlier in the evening, Glensheen will begin their lantern tours... for those looking for a slightly spooky adventure or those who just want to see art by lanternlight.
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
