Where's Art: Fiber Art on Display

Fiber art of a red flower with green leaves
Artist: Kay Paczkowski

Fiber Arts are having a moment.

At the Needle Art Guild meeting on Monday, September 22nd from 11am-2pm, Theresa Hornstein will be presenting on using invasive species as dyes and Karen Buell will offer guidance on embroidery.

Later on, at 6pm at Spirit of the Lakes Community Arts, it's the next Sew You Want to Sew event. Tonight, the focus will be on creating and sewing your own costume for the upcoming season. "Anytime you can create your own vision of a costume is really special. It makes the whole process really lovely and meaningful," says Annie Dugan. For those looking to darn a sock or two, Mending Mondays is happening at Waterstop.

On Tuesday, Duluth's Best Bread's Superior location is hosting Crochet with Karly from 2-4pm. "Crocheting has really hit it big," says Dugan. "I see a ton of young people... who have really gotten into crocheting as an art form."

This weekend, the fiber arts (and more) continue into the 14th annual Lake Superior 20/20 Studio & Art Tour. The 3-day event invites guests into art studios from Duluth to Two Harbors for a closer look at artists in their workspaces. More information can be found on the Lake Superior 20/20 website.

You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
