Last month was a mix of high temperatures and low precipitation. With a temperature range of 43 degrees throughout the month and around an inch and a half of rainfall, July did not offer the best ingredients for growth. However, 'Awesome August' - as Larry Weber calls it - brings the possibility of a bountiful end to the summer.
During a stroll in the forest, one might hear the call of gray tree frogs claiming their territory. These adult frogs will call from high up in a tree to signal to those around - a threat against encroaching on their space.
With temperatures increasing, insects of all sorts are coming out of the woodwork; butterflies, bees, wasps, crickets and more. And when there are insects there are spiders. Their web art can be seen all around; hidden in the corners of porches, in between trees, and on windowsills.
Long drives along the shore showcase the beautiful wildflowers that grow along highways such as golden rod, sunflowers and asters. And if you look close enough you might spot some raspberries, blackberries and blueberries that are ready for picking.
