UMD students, like many young people the world over, do not see fossil fuels in their future.
Minnesota Public Interest Research Group's (MPIRG's) Week of Action culminated in a rally Saturday in downtown Duluth, hoping to convince Minnesota Power (and/or its customers) to abandon plans for the proposed Nemadji Trail Energy Center (NTEC) fracked gas plant.
“The proposed NTEC fracked gas facility simply doesn’t make sense. It’s risky for our local economy, our communities’ health and our shared climate,” said Isaac Conrad, President of the University Honors Student Association at UMD in a news release. “With the price of fracked gas skyrocketing, how is this at all okay for Minnesota Power customers who will pay for the plant long after it’s closed?
