Community Connection: Kubb at the Lake Superior Ice Festival

Even with the onset of winter, Shane and Erik Linge - and the rest of the Lake Superior Kubb crew - are still holding their regular meetups at Earth Rider in Superior on Thursdays at 6pm. All are welcome to stop by and try their hand at the Nordic game of Kubb.

Also, on the calendar for Lake Superior Kubb is the Lake Superior Ice Festival happening on January 26th and 27th. The organization hosts an annual tournament on the frozen bay - a tournament that draws the attention of some of the best Kubb teams from the region. "These are teams that are winning championships at the US National Championships," says Shane Linge.

The five-year-old tournament draws attention from big fish, but novices are also very welcome to the event. "Shane and I are teaching people to play on the half hour," says Erik Linge. And for those less interested in Kubb, the Lake Superior Ice Festival also offers opportunities for mini golf, frisbee golf, snowshoeing, and more.

Note: due to the warm temperatures thus far this winter, registration for the tournament has been limited and is now closed. With the bay not yet fully frozen, the playing field will be limited to land matches only. Get more updates and info via the Lake Superior Kubb Facebook page.

You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
