Textures are abundant at Lizzard's Gallery in downtown Duluth, especially as it pertains to the work by Melanie Lieb.
On a recent field trip, Annie Dugan and several students were drawn to the carpet hooking pieces by Lieb. Through this process, that some may remember from childhood, Lieb presents lips, hot dogs and macaroni. "You just want to rub your hands through it," says Dugan. "It's just this wall of vibrant, vibrant poppy color."
You can find an interview with Melanie Lieb on Emily Vikre's blog, Frenchie and Friends. "[Vikre] has a lovely way of talking with artists and bringing out challenges, questions, and things she notices," says Dugan.
