Where's Art: Surrealism

Oil painting looking through the windshield of a car at night, inside is a man, child, cat, and zebra
Scott Murphy

Surrealism has been around for a century now, but it's not going anywhere. Signs of the movement can be seen this week in the Northland.

Tuesdays at the Rathskeller in Duluth, The Hot Club of Duluth combines jazz, silent films, and live painting. This Tuesday Kathryne Ford will be painting to the tunes from 7:30-9:30pm.

Thursday at the Kruk Gallery on the UWS campus from 5-8pm Scott Murphy unveils Night Drive. The exhibition of oil paintings focuses on scenes that feature odd groupings of people (and creatures) riding in cars at night. Murphy will also host an artist talk on Tuesday the 26th at 10am.

Rabbit, Bird & Bear: Fine Arts and Gifts is a new gallery in town that opened last weekend on First Avenue West. The shop includes the work of over 45 local artists and producers.

You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
