Radio Gallery 03-06-2012 Chris Willcox

Chris Willcox teaches painting at Macalester College in St. Paul, and she first became interested in the history of Antarctica after reading about the Antarctic Treaty of 1961. The treaty stated that the continent was to be set aside as a scientific preserve. Willcox creates painterly pastiches that capture the beautifully bleak Arctic landscape by working with the documentary photographs from early expeditions. She also makes psychological group portraits of these Heroic Age explorers. From Friday, January 20, 2012?Sunday, April 1, 2012 MAEP Galleries is holding a Free Exhibition of her work. There is also a Gallery talk on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 7 - 9 p.m. MAEP Galleries presents "Standards: Mark Ostapchuk" and "90? South: Chris Willcox"
