Noah Hobbs recently became the interim executive director at the Lake Superior Zoo. He discussed some changes in the zoo’s animal population and new additions to the event calendar.
The Zoo obtained a liquor license to better facilitate after hours programming for adults, with a focus on conservation education. Every second Wednesday of the month, at the newly established Porcupine Pub, there will be pub trivia from 6 to 8pm. Twenty percent of the questions are animal based. The Porcupine Pub is in the process of expanding their food menu as well.
There will also be upcoming “luminary walks.” The luminary walks are scheduled between 5 pm and 8 pm from February 13th through February 22nd. There will be a thousand ice luminaries and paper luminaries on the zoo’s campus. Tickets are $10.00 for non-members and $5.00 for members.
As far as animals go, the Duluth Zoo recently adopted two Canadian lynx brothers from the Pittsburgh Zoo. The process of acquiring new animals is ongoing and is based primarily on species survival and conservation, as opposed to crowd-pullers.
