The Séance is a new parody written by Nathan Sykes and Cori Zastera and is being performed as a dinner theater event at Ritual Marketplace in Superior on February 13th and 14th.
"We kept pitching jokes back and forth until we got a decent shell of a script," says Sykes of the writing process. After a table read with actors and a couple weeks of rehearsals, the presentation of the story remained fluid in order to continue exploring the comedy elements. "We just told [the actors] if you see a joke and sense a joke, take the joke."
The dinner theater experience does allow for some audience involvement, but there is understanding from the producers that not everyone appreciates that element of live theater, so they've taken precautions. "We've built into the show a way for the actors to know [that] you can interact with these people, but not these people."
