Since 2015, Duluth Monarch Buddies has befriended the butterflies. Most summers, the organization hosts the Monarch Festival in June and the Waystation Garden Tour in August. This year's tour is being held on Saturday, August 2nd.
"We promote the conservation, restoring and increasing Monarch habitats by means of native pollinator gardens which must include milkweed," says Cathy Wood, president of Duluth Monarch Buddies. "People can help in any small way."
One way to help is by attending the Waystation Garden Tour. Beginning at 9:30am on Saturday, August 2nd, folks can stop by Peace Church at 1111 E 11th St in Duluth to make a $10 donation and walk away with a map to various gardens in Duluth. The self-guided tour goes from 10am-1pm. All of the gardens on the tour have been certified through Monarch Watch (monarchwatch.org). The first step to certification is milkweed - the Duluth Monarch Buddies will be distributing milkweed seeds on Saturday.
