Second Harvest Northland, the region's only food bank, has plenty of produce available as summer crops come in.
"People don't really realize, but fresh produce makes up about 25% of the food we distribute annually, and summer, of course, there is a lot more surplus product available," says Shaye Moris, CEO and President of Second Harvest Northland. As the summer rolls along, the selections on the shelf will continue to evolve with the season. Sweet corn and tomatoes are peaking now, and potatoes and more will be available when autumn gets closer.
Second Harvest Northland in Duluth is always looking for volunteers to help with operations, and the organization takes donations from those who have a surplus from their gardens. More information about Second Harvest Northland can be found on their website or by calling 218-727-5653.
