Parents across the Northland - and the nation - are struggling with the cost of childcare. Tomorrow night at Peace Church in Duluth is the Parent Power Launch, a gathering of organizations and community members to address the issues surrounding childcare.
Since last October, Mackenzie Foley, Community Organizer with Isaiah Minnesota, and others have been hosting listening sessions, one-to-one conversations, and events to build awareness and gain perspective from parents working on the balance of childcare and work. "We have this challenge," says Foley. "How can we come together to build the necessary people power to be able to solve the issues."
On Wednesday, July 16th from 5-7pm at Peace Church in Duluth (1111 N 11th Ave. E) is the Parent Power Launch. Parents and community members are welcome to attend and contribute. "You're not alone," says Foley regarding families struggling with childcare. "The things that you're experiencing, the challenges of finding childcare, is not your fault."
For more information about the cause, visit the Isaiah website or the Kids Count On Us website. Registration for the Parent Power Launch event can also be found online.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning. This edition of Community Connection is made possible in part by Lakewalk Surgery Center.
