This weekend, a Minnesota organization dedicated to environmental education and policy change is giving local K2 teachers an opportunity to learn more about presenting climate issues to elementary school students.
Climate Generation, a climate education organization, is hosting an event this Saturday from 9:00am-3:00pm at Lincoln Park Middle School. The event will be focusing on teaching educators about food solutions as a part of climate change education.
Climate Generation Policy Director B. Rosas says that it's important that educators learn how to present these issues to students in a way they can understand.
"Like any subject, it's about how do we make this topic digestible for students, and how do we make it so that when students are learning about climate change and the climate crisis, that they're not thinking about this on the doom scale, in terms of 'Oh my god! What is going on with the world? Why is this happening?'," said Rosas. "You'll learn about climate change, but we're also going to teach you about climate change solutions."
The March 22nd event is now at capacity and registration is closed. However, there will be a similar event held in the Twin Cities later this year. More information can be found at the Climate Generation website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
