A local organization has opened a new building in its fight against hunger. According to Second Harvest Northland President and CEO Shaye Morris, this facility will be a welcome addition for their cause.
"In our blueprint, we serve 15 counties," said Morris. "That includes about 60 area food shelves, it includes onsite meals programs... and then in addition, we provide food directly to our neighbors experiencing hunger."
That direct contact has led Second Harvest to have a food shelf program in Duluth and Grand Rapids, mobile food pantry programs, backpack and school pantry programs, and a nutrition for senior program, all in the name of solving hunger.
The organization is hosting a public event to celebrate the opening and to spread awareness of their mission. All are welcome to attend.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
