Dr. Tim Lorek is the Director of the Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice at the College of St. Scholastica. The calendar of events focused on the theme "Water: Sustaining Life in the 21st Century" comes to a close next week with a final lecture and a teacher training.
On April 11th, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha will speak at the Mitchell Auditorium on the CSS campus. Dr. Hanna-Attisha and her team were the whistleblowers during the Flint, Michigan water crisis of 2014. It was her team's request for blood tests that led to "data that really helped mobilize public awareness of this crisis," says Lorek. Dr Hanna-Attisha will talk about her experience fighting for clean water in underrepresented and undervalued areas.
On April 13th, K-12 teachers are welcome to join a workshop that will discuss how to teach on the theme of water. The Saturday event will include workshops with WLSSD on PFAS contaminants and with Fond du Lac representatives on ecological knowledge. Attendees can also expect to learn about the Adopt a Storm Drain Program.
More information about registering for the teacher workshops and the upcoming lecture can be found online.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
