The World Climate School (WCS) began in Norway as an idea to address the mental health aspects of climate change. "Over the past nine years, they've been doing what they call transformative educational programs around climate change," says Tone Lanzillo who has become a part of the core team for the first iteration of the World Climate School in the United States.
The first US campus will be here in Duluth to provide community level climate education. "What we're going to do here is organize... non-traditional campuses," says Lanzillo who is organizing meetings and events at various locations around the Twin Ports. Duluth's Best Bread is playing most to monthly discussions and the University of Minnesota is creating climate stories for the benefit of the WCS. Damiano Center, the Duluth Folks School and others have been brought into the conversation as possible locations for future events.
