Ecolibrium 3 had a busy Earth Week with gatherings, guests, neighborhood clean-ups and more. “I was worried that morning when I saw the snowflakes falling,” says Communications Manager Sarah Kjorlien who was concerned that the weather might deter attendees for a Saturday morning clean-up event. Ultimately, 120 volunteers gathered to pick up trash throughout the neighborhood. An additional 60 Upward Bound students gathered to pitch in as well.
The Lincoln Park-based non-profit Eco3 focuses on economic vitality, environmental sustainability, and social equity. "We look at anything that can develop those three things," says Kjorlien. Though the mission is broad, the organization pays special attention to the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
With Earth Week now in the past, Ecolibrium3 is gearing up for future events. The New Urban Farm Property at Lake Superior College will be the location for the "Saturdays at the Farm" event. The weekly event throughout the summer goes from 10am-3pm every Saturday. "No registration required, just stop by whenever and do some hands-on farm work," says Kjorlien.
Along with Earth Week and summer events, Eco3 also offers energy audits to improve the comfort and affordability of homes. More information about Eco3 and upcoming events can be found on their website and on their Facebook page.
