Starting in the mid-eighties local landowners started talking about a hiking trail. Today, that trail connects eight state parks and spans over 300 miles - and has brought with it a connectivity to a greater community.
"I'm a big proponent of nature as therapy," says Lisa Luokkala, executive director of the Superior Hiking Trail. "This trail touches the lives of so many people in so many ways."
The creation of the trail has involved plenty of hard work. That hard work continues through efforts by many volunteers and donors. "We're volunteer powered," says Luokkala.
To find out more about the trail or to learn about volunteer opportunities, visit the Superior Hiking Trail website. Members and volunteers will also be present at Chester Bowl Fall Fest and other community events this autumn.
