Popularly given as holiday gifts in recent years, the amaryllis [actually Hippeastrum, a genus of South American bulbous flowering plants, as opposed to the South African Amaryllis] are usually sold in kits that contain everything one needs to enjoy the flower's rebirth each year during these winter months.
