A playground altercation resulting in injury brings two sets of parents together for the first time. Dealing with the situation like adults becomes a tall task for the parents.
So goes the 2009 Tony Award-winning play God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, opening at Zeitgeist in Duluth on Thursday, November 13th. "There is a lot of masking with these couples," says Mary Fox, one of the four cast members. "What unfolds is... sort of ends in a mess - or adults behaving like children."
The show leaves plenty of opportunity for interpretation for the actors, but despite the heavy subject matter, the tone angles heavily toward the comedic. "The playwright specifies that it's not labeled a comedy, it's not labeled a drama," says Fox. "It could be a very serious drama... we are leaning hard into the comedy. It is very fun."
God of Carnage runs until November 22nd with a "Pay What You Can" night on Wednesday, November 19th. For tickets and more information, visit the Zeitgeist Arts website.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
