In a world full of small instrument advocates, Maria Koutsoheras chose the tuba. "I thought it was an interesting instrument to play, but then I had a bunch of people tell me I was too small for it, so I kind of did it out of spite," she explains.
Twelve years later, Koutsoheras not only plays the tuba, but is graduating with a corresponding college degree. Recently, she had her senior recital where she played solo pieces, one of them being Six Studies by Vaughan Williams, arranged for tuba in the spotlight.
Coming up, Koutsoheras will be performing on December 6th in the symphony orchestra for the Sound of the Season Concert. On December 15th, she'll play alongside her mom, a converted tubist, for Duluth Tuba Christmas.
