Community Connection: National Novel Writing Month

This November, storytellers across the country are putting pen to paper for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a non-profit organization encouraging writers to either start or complete their projects in the next 30 days.

"The whole month is focusing on you writing and getting your writing done," explains Konnie LeMay, chair member of Lake Superior Writers. The idea of NaNoWriMo is to commit to 50,000 words in one month, which poses a daunting and exciting challenge.

Locally, there are three events happening at the Duluth Public Library for National Novel Writing Month. On November 7th, author Carter Meland will be talking about the genre of speculative fiction and how it connects to Indigenous futurism. On November 12th, you can "Research like a Librarian," and learn the ins and outs from library researchers about finding resources for your project. Finally, on November 19th, the library will host a "NaNoWriMo Write In," a space for writers to work in the company of each other with snacks and beverages.

Additionally, Lake Superior Writers has a virtual cafe every second Saturday of the month. More information can be found on the Duluth Library and Lake Superior Writers' websites.

You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
