A touch of the macabre is blended with the beauty of ballet this weekend at Studio 4 for the Minnesota Ballet's performance of Poe, a presentation of several tales of terror from Edgar Alan Poe.
"Everybody in the country does a Dracula," says Karl von Rabenau when talking about electing to focus on an original work rather than a more regular and predictable title. Though choreography is a giant part of presenting ballet, finding music to couple with the visual presentation can be a task. "The choreography always start with music... I've been trying to find things that are spooky for the holiday."
Along with tonally appropriate music, the historic space that is Studio 4 has been an asset to the show as well. "Studio 4 is very much a participant in this production," says von Rabenau. "When you walk in there and see these beautiful brick walls... it really helps set the stage."
Poe will be performed October 24th-27th and on Halloween night at Studio 4 in downtown Duluth. Tickets are available through the Minnesota Ballet website or by calling 218-733-7570.
