It's a tale as old as horror; five college students plan a week of partying at a secluded cabin in the woods, but accidentally awaken an evil entity who kills the vibe... and then some.
"I'd consider it a hard PG-13," says director Nathan Payne of the Denfeld High School Theater production of Evil Dead: The Musical. Payne has portrayed the lead character of Ash four times and understands the adult nature of the original script, and that making the show high school-friendly would be a task. "It mostly was figuring out ways to not drop F-bombs."
The comedy-horror-musical is based off the trilogy of films, which began with Evil Dead in 1981, and concluded with 1992s Army of Darkness.
Evil Dead: The Musical takes the stage at Denfeld High School October 24th-26th. For more adventurous attendees and hardcore fans, the show will include optional "splatter zone" seating. "The audience gets really into it," says Payne. "When they're getting sprayed with fake blood their pretty excited."
Ticket for the show are available at Denfeld Theater website.
