Sometimes supporting, sometimes found within, or sometimes located nearby, visual arts are frequently tied to the theatrical stage.
Just outside of the theater space at Zeitgeist in Duluth, Larry Turbes fills the atrium with large canvases for an exhibition titled Gone Abstract. "He started exploring what you can do with lines," says Annie Dugan. "From there he builds on them in really powerful ways." An opening reception is open to all from 4-6pm on Thursday, June 6th.
As part of the Lyric Opera of the North's presentation of La Bohéme, opening on June 14th at the MPAC stage at the University of Wisconsin Superior, the lobby leading into the performance space will be filled with work by local artists. "This is where the mythology of the starving artist comes from," says Annie Dugan of La Bohéme. In cooperation with the Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art, patrons will be emersed into the artworld before the first note is played.
You can hear Where's Art every Monday morning at 8:20 on Northland Morning.
