Back Tracks: Three Music Questions with Carl Crawford

“That train has left the station,” says Carl Crawford of his basketball career. Locally, Crawford played for the University of Wisconsin Superior from 1986-1988. On his way to Wisconsin from his birthplace of Los Angeles, Crawford played for a year at a junior college in Arizona. With the strenuous sport behind him, Crawford is keen on spending time with more leisurely activities: fishing, golfing, and grilling.

Digging into his music history, Crawford’s first album was an early work by an artist who all but owned the 1980s, his first concert (or at least the first one that created a significant memory) included Prince in attendance, and his guilty pleasure song takes a trip to 1976 and gets him moving. “I remember that song back in the day roller skating,” says Crawford. “If you pull up to someone and they’re singing that song you got to join in.”
