Where's Art: Art on Our Screens

First, a rescheduling. The opening for the new exhibition at the Nordic Center has been postponed to March 24th from 7-9pm. The original opening reception was to have taken place on the 17th. The exhibit titled “Leading with our Hearts” incorporates Nordic, Sami and Ojibwe designs from nature through a contemporary lens.

The Duluth Art Institute has been having some fun with social media recently. On Instagram, DAI posts prompts that encourage artists to respond. Artists then share something based on the prompt. “The most recent one was ‘show a portrait,’” says Annie Dugan. The prompts end up offering a unique view of local artists.

Local artist Jonathon Thunder is the subject of two new documentaries. The first is a nation piece through the American Masters series titled Good Mythology which follows Thunder and highlights the source material for his work. “I would suggest watching that one first,” says Dugan. After that, you can check out a 13-minute Postcard video portrait that “totally captures Jonathan's wonderful sense of humor… his wonderful take on art.”

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
