"It's going to be a great year in art," says Annie Dugan.
The year kicks off with several exhibits. On Monday, January 9th AICHO is hosting the 2023 Brave Art Youth Exhibition: Healing Through Community. The exhibition celebrates the artwork of youth from 5th grade to 24 years of age.
The Duluth Art Institute has two exhibits to take in. In the Morrison gallery patrons can see Martin DeWitt's exhibit titled Our Common Origins. Dugan says that DeWitt has been “fully immersing himself in his work over the last number of years... the colors really are stunning and they’re electric, they are relaxing.” Dugan goes on to call the images “pure energy on canvas.”
In the Steffl gallery at the DAI, Susan Hensel presents Bending toward Beauty. The artist states, "I am using thread and fiber techniques to shift light and perception through structures and forms in the real world.” Hensel uses a limited color pallet and applies it to tactile sculptures and mixed media works.
And there is a reception at the DAI on January 12th that will include a dialogue with the artists.
