Annie Dugan starts out this week with a call to action for Northland artists. "I want to suggest that every artist check out Soovac's Annual Juried Exhibition 'Call for Art'," says Annie Dugan. Soovac is a Twin Cities space highlighting emerging and underrepresented voices. Deadline for submissions is December 12th. "And if you need assistance with photographing your work or writing an artist statement, remember that Springboard for the Arts, another statewide organization has help for artists to do just that... I would love to have some... regional artists of our arrowhead represented."
This Saturday, the Duluth Fiber Guild hosts their annual Fiber Fair and Sale. Pick up raw materials or some finished products. Whether you're a beginner just starting out or an experienced artist, you can check in and learn more about the organization. The event runs from 10am-3pm this Saturday, November 19th.
"It's Pepperkakebyen time!" It's the eleventh year that the Nordic Center has hosted its Gingerbread City. This Friday they will open their space on Lake Avenue for patrons to see the gingerbread creations. The event opens to correspond with the Christmas City of the North Parade. "It's lovely, it's wonderful to see what folks have come up with," says Dugan.
Dugan also got curious about gingerbread from beyond our region. Check out these videos from the largest Pepperkakebyen in Bergen, Norway as well as the winners from last year's national gingerbread competition in North Carolina.
