"The flute exists in so many different cultures," says Paula Gudmundson. "The flute is one of the oldest instruments in the world." Gudmundson has been playing the flute for over three decade and, as such, the flute has become for her a versatile musical tool with which to creatively explore.

Adapting to the changing times has also been a large part of Gudmundson's musical life. A recent experience saw her playing short ten-minute concerts around Duluth. "We went to a nursing homes, we went to parks, we went to Glensheen," says Gudmundson. "Everybody can experience a little bit of live music in their life. They don't need to carve out an hour."

Music has long been a way to comment on social change and it has become a real focus for Gudmundson. "As people, we want to be able to engage with the problems in society. As a musician, that's kind of what I see that music can offer me as a performer; an opportunity to comment and an opportunity to heal."

You can hear Gudmundson perform on September 19th at Weber Music Hall on the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth. More information will be available on the Weber Music Hall website.
