Emily Haavik and the 35s perform at the DECC Harbor Side Ballroom during the 2022 Duluth Homegrown Music Festival.

This Duluth native has a new project in collaboration with women from different artistic disciplines. Together, they produced a multi-media piece called “Do You Think You Protect Me?” meant to raise awareness about violence against women, especially the disproportionate rates of violence against BIPOC women. We talked with Haavik about the project and she shared some new tunes when she joined us in the studio on Friday, September 23 at 2pm. The “Do You Think You Protect Me?” video debuted the same night at a show at Earth Rider Brewery in Superior that featured Haavik and her band as well as AfroGeode and the Gemstones; all proceeds went to the Native Lives Matter Coalition’s No More MMIW campaign.
