We've had some hot days this July, but we've also had some cooler temps too. Although temperatures in the 90s have been frequent, so too have overnight temps in the 40s.
Although consistent cooler conditions are likely still many weeks into the future, there are always signs of the changing season. The last of the nesting birds are just getting around to creating their nests. Goldfinch are finally finding the appropriate thistle to start building. Different wildflowers are entering the scene as well. Now is the time of goldenrod, sunflowers and asters. These flowers start now and will potentially last into October.
Spiders are also at a peak. Keep your eyes open for sack spiders laying their eggs and even wolf spiders that could be scurrying around in the grass.
