Backyard Almanac: Tiny Toad Time

Larry Weber is not focusing on the smoke. There are better things to talk about.

Even though Larry's walk was shorter this week, he was still finding plenty of interest in the outdoors. Lots of berries are showing up on the trails with ripe blackberries just around the corner. Tansy, fireweed, milkweed, and goldenrods (among many others) are all showing up too.

And right now is the time for tiny toads. Baby toads have been spending recent weeks and months growing up in the ponds, but now they - like baby squirrels, rabbits, deer, and birds - are starting to make their own way in the world. The baby toads are leaving the ponds and exploring life out of water.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
