With hot days ahead, Larry Weber will be taking his walks in the morning before the temperatures get too high. However, if you think it's hot now, turn back the clock 90 years and you'll see that the Northland has had hotter days. In 1936, Duluth had a stretch of days in July that were consistently in the upper 90s with one day reaching 106 degrees - by the lake.
Back to the present, Larry is noticing lots of insects including a variety of butterflies during the day, and fireflies at night. Spiders are out in abundance too, some of which will eat their own webs on a regular basis to avoid being noticed by predators. And the recent rain has given way to a lot of mushrooms.
You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
