Who knew a single flower could have such a rich local history. "Some of the heirloom plants that are around the foundations of some of Duluth's oldest houses are peony plants that have maybe been there for over a hundred years," says Don Kienholz of the Duluth Peony Society. "Minnesota was a hotbed of peony production at the turn of the century."
June 24th-26th is the Society's annual Peony Show happening at the Longview Tennis Court clubhouse. A wide variety of peonies will be on display, and patrons will have a chance to take a selfie in a frame decorated with peony blooms. The peonies can be viewed at the clubhouse from 8am-8pm. There will also be an opportunity to connect with members of the Duluth Peony Society at the Rose Garden between 4-6pm on Wednesday.
More information about the Duluth Peony Society can be found through their social media pages. The Society has over 10,000 followers from across the globe.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
