When does summer begin? Memorial Day? June 1st? The solstice? For Larry Weber, it's none of these. For our Backyard Almanac host, the start of summer isn't dictated by a calendar marking, but rather by the shift in wildflowers. When the open fields have more flowers than the woodland, that's when you know it's summer.
Additional signs of the changing season are all around. Baby animals are becoming more abundant, spider webs are showing up more frequently, and lots of songbirds are filling the days with their happy tunes.
You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
