At the halfway point of May, the assessment is that it's been a dry one. With not a whole lot of rain to speak of, Larry Weber turns his eyes to the animals and plants. Trees are budding, giving rise to caterpillars who feast on the leaves, which in turn leads to more birds who feast on the caterpillars.
Birds of all size are showing up with potential mates making noise. Wild turkeys can be heard in the woods putting out signals, and the male and female red-winged blackbirds have now both arrived in the Northland to kick off their courting season.
You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
