At 5:15pm on Thursday, May 7th, folks will be gathering to socialize, to enjoy pizza, and to talk about careers in water resource recovery. The "After the Flush" event begins at Thirsty Pagan Brewery before culminating with a tour of Superior's Wastewater Treatment Plant.
"[Creating this event] was a mix of people coming together, and organizations coming together," says Megan Högfeldt, Water Resources Specialist for the City of Superior. The local group Café Sci was interested in the topic of wastewater, and Alan Brew from the Lake Superior Research Institute was on the same wavelength as well. "Maybe we could just put it all together and make it into a big event that includes information for the community, about what wastewater does for our community, and then also what a couple of those jobs might look like."
The evening will begin with pizza at Thirsty Pagan in Superior with a few presentations from people in the industry who will share about their unique career paths and how they arrived at working with water. There will also be an opportunity for socializing, asking questions, and networking. "We don't think people really realize how many different career paths there are that come together to make the treatment happen," says Alan Brew. After the presentations, the gathering will move to the Superior Wastewater Treatment Plant for a tour.
More information and details about the event can be found on the UWS website.
You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
