Since 1981, the North Country Trail Association (NCTA) has been building, expanding, and caring for a system of trails that now spans 4,800 miles from North Dakota to Vermont. The trail is cared for and appreciated by local chapters and volunteers.
In the coming days and weeks, the Bruhl-St. Croix Chapter of the NCTA will be hosting several outings that are geared toward all interested hikers regardless of experience. The next event is happening on September 20th. The gathering begins in Solon Springs at 9:30am and will take participants into an area of the NCTA locally known as the Bird Sanctuary.
On September 27th, the Paddle, Potluck and Hike event offers an opportunity for kayaking on St. Croix Lake before sharing in a communal meal and finally taking a hike on the trail. On October 11th, hikers will be led through a section of trail in the Bruhl River State Forest for an overlook of the Bruhl Valley and plenty of fall colors.
Events are designed for hikers to participate at the level that they are comfortable. "We welcome all hikers," says Peter Nordgren, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator for the Bruhl-St. Croix Chapter of the NCTA. "The hikes are not strenuous." A well-marked trail makes it easy for anyone to turn around at any point and return to the parking lot.
More information can be found online about the NCTA and to register for the upcoming events through the Bruhl-St. Croix chapter.
You can hear Community Connection every Tuesday and Thursday at 8am on Northland Morning.
