Starry Skies North, the local chapter of DarkSky International, has been making the most of stargazing opportunities this September with events that culminate this Friday the 12th at Woodstock Bay in Superior, Wisconsin.
"As we move in toward the fall... we start to get those earlier and earlier sunsets," says Starry Skies North President Todd Burlet about the timing of the celebration. "It's dark enough at family-friendly times." Burlet notes that the temps are also ideal, as is the lack of mosquitos.
Since September 4th, Starry Skies North has hosted a variety of stargazing events and has been present during the day at Dovetail Cafe in the Lincoln Park neighborhood to connect with community members and to answer questions. "It's vitally important that we talk about what people can do [about light pollution]," says Burlet.
Friday's gather (a telescope viewing star party) takes place at Woodstock Bay in Billings Park in Superior. The event goes from 8pm-10:30pm. In case of inclement weather, the event will be pushed to Saturday.
