It's August, and for Larry Weber, this isn't just any old flip of the calendar - we're now in AWESOME August.

Part of the awesomeness of the natural world in August stems from the beginning of mushroom season. Various kinds can be spotted growing on the ground, trees, and fall logs.

Don't be surprised if Awesome August also gives us our first glimpse of migrants. Some birds are already packing their bags for the trip south.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
