As the colors outside shift from brown to green, more and more people are getting outdoors and active. Some may take to the hiking trails, others might paddle down a river or on a lake. However, one of the most common ways to get active happens right outside your door - in your garden.
"Gardening is really one of those catalysts that helps get us outside to help in meeting our neighbors, saying hello, watching the world go by, being a part of it, and feeling a greater sense or part of the community around us," says Tom Kasper.
For decades, front yard living was the standard. Over the last 40 years or so, people have started transitioning to the back of the house, building decks and patios in their backyard. As such, front lawn care has decreased in those years, with less and less people planting flowers or shrubs.
Kasper says that one easy step to get back to front yards is to plant flowers in a small flowerpot. It can be placed anywhere, either on a front porch or on the steps. They can be a great way to beautify your home and has the side effect of attracting some great pollinators... and maybe a friendly neighbor or two.
