Green Visions: Renewable Energy Construction and Reducing Impact with Allison Ray

"I originally thought I'd be a lawyer," says Allison Ray, Senior Program Manager with Stantec Consulting. "I fell into environmental consulting."

Although one of her goals was to get paid to hike, as professional opportunities arose, Ray found herself less on the trails and more often in the office taking a close look at the environmental impact of energy projects. There are always going to be impacts to the land and water when improvements are made - including renewable improvements.

Now, Ray works on routing energy projects and drafting permit applications. In some cases, applications (for new offshore wind projects, for example) can be thousands of pages long. "To evaluate... we have to add in more analysis than we traditionally do."

You can hear Green Visions at 8:20am every Wednesday on Northland Morning.
