Backyard Almanac: "Same Seven" and then some

As predicted, the January thaw came to the Northland. But after a few days of mild melt, the temps look to take a sub-zero cliff dive this weekend.

Something else that has been in steep decline is the precipitation. Although there is some snow on the ground, we're well below normal for this time of year.

Animal tracks remain visible with each new dusting of snow, and the birds are plenty prevalent. Larry Weber has a term for some of the usual birds this time of year; "Same Seven". However, there have been a few others showing up, including owls in droves. When the food moves south, so do the predators.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
