Tips for Hardy Gardeners: Dead-Heading

The phrase 'Dead Head' can mean different things to different groups of people; to the music community it means you're a fan of the Grateful Dead, to the tattooing community it is a skull tattoo, but to the gardening community it is a trimming technique that could save your plants.

Dead-heading flowers is a practice involving the trimming or cutting of wilted or dead flower stalks to give space and nutrients to the up-and-coming flowers. This technique can give flower beds and hanging baskets a cleaner and healthier appearance. And, for the gardener, the process can be a therapeutic one.

You can hear Tips for Hardy Gardeners every other Tuesday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.

Luke Moravec is the host for Northland Morning on The North 103.3. He’s also a local actor, musician and writer. He loves puzzles, riddles and fun mysteries.
