Backyard Almanac: Springing Ahead and a Spring Ahead of Schedule

The shortest weekend of the year is here - don't forget to spring those clocks ahead early on Sunday morning.

Without a snowpack, vernal ponds could be relatively non-existent this year. Frogs and other critters that typically make good use of these ponds might have to seek out a different home for propagation.

Looking up, it's not too early for some migrating birds. Many raptors are moving through the area as are Trumpeter Swans. Keep your eyes peeled for butterflies as well - they'll perch on trees to bask in the sun and are drawn to running sap.

You can hear Backyard Almanac every Friday at 8:20am on Northland Morning.
