The last significant precipitation that we've seen in the Northland was in the form of snow. That's one way of saying we need rain. The forecast suggests rain this weekend, but in the meantime, what's to be done?
For gardeners who are looking to maximize their hydration efforts, Tom Kasper recommends an early watering schedule. Daytime watering will lead to much of the water evaporating, and evening water "has it's perils," says Kasper. "[It] can lead to fungal and disease problems." Watering thoroughly rather than little by little is also advised.
A few other actions to care for plants and simultaneously conserve water include moving plants to shaded areas and watering plants near to the ground. This ensures that the majority of the water be helpful to the vegetation.
